My standard shaft was seized on the splines a few years ago so I removed the coating greased it up and is still going strong. So I don't think the coating does too much in the scheme of things
Hi
I replaced the front uni on my custom (local driveshaft shop) double cardon drive shaft this weekend, UJ was very worn.
It's on a 1985 county with a 2" lift and rotated swivels.
I noticed the splines were locked solid and the blue what I presume is a Teflon coating was torn up and impeding the smooth movement splines. I scraped off the damaged part and it slides again.
The coating was paint thickness so probably 150 microns and felt very low friction.
Does anyone know anything about this coating? I want to remove it, can you do this or are the splines machined to accommodate the coating?
Any help appreciated
Clive

The coating is applied to an UNDERSIZE spline. This means when the coating is removed, it will have excess slop on the slip yolk. I did this years and years ago and ended up having to toss the shaft out.
