For some jobs, the product you describe is both cheap and effective.
However, when sealing body seams, like the ones on RR where the side floor and floor pan meet, or the C pillar pieces, really the non drying 10mm or 3/8" butyl mastic strip is the answer.

I've always kept some of the strip stuff with me in the car, just in case it springs a leak somewhere and I want to plug it.
it's worth mentioning I often own a car where such an occurrences can manifest itself.

The cheaper caulking gun butyl mastic is the same product, in a different delivery medium and consistence.
The ribbons and strips of which I am speaking are so much more expensice, yet 40 years ago, they were the only product and when the caulking gun stuff came about it was lauded as the future and priced up accordingly.

My, how times change.

Guess I'm a horse of a different colour, being one who likes the personal contact and the telling bone as a means of communication.
The amount if time I can spend typing a simply reply, you could probably have worked effectively for 30 minutes.
For me the phone call is still a ripper thing, usually getting to he bottom of the online experience, without all the hassle, if you're not 'puter savvy. Hey, that resembles me.

Either way mate, if you don't receive any joy, I have both a 5 metre pack of the 3M product and a few metres of Wurth.
Having had some years experience with both, I recommend their application in the scenario you're looking at.

Keep us up to speed, the Woolies product might just be a really good thing at a reasonable price. Another source of the ribbon type is always welcome.

Range Rover definitely used the stuff originally, whose brand I've no idea, the product is the same no matter what.

Chops, thanks for the idea but this stuff is more like clay. Take a look at the interior panel joins on an old Range Rover and it looks like a desperate owner stuffed some goo in there to stop the rain leaking in, but really that's how they were assembled. Which is rather quaint, seen from this distance in time.

That's funny - I've been stuffed around with "I'll call you back" that many times I couldn't stand it anymore and have developed a phone phobia. You've had better luck, but then WA is especially notorious for bad customer service so no doubt that's been most of the problem for me. These days, I tear through Internet research getting as much done in an hour as it used to take a week to do in ye olden dayes.

Anyway, we'll see what turns up this week. It's looking like I'll eventually take out the entire floor so I'll need a bit. And I'll definitely be keeping some in the spares box, as I found a gap in the floor under the rear seat, complete with many years worth of red mud!

Hee hee, that's true about email here. I didn't try Amazon because some of the reviews described a gooey black mess, just like what I received from Fishpond, but they may still be worth a try.

However, I did get a reply from Wurth this morning . . . so we'll see if they can answer the rest of my questions.

Not positive about this, but I think Wurth generally on deal with workshops, plus a few retailers. Not entirely sure you can buy from them direct.

They may have relaxed on this, but I wanted some of their Rost-Off spray and the only way I could get it was have my mechanic order it for me.

This stuff would do the trick.

That first link is what I was looking at as well. Some of the descriptions call it a replacement for Dum-dum. The second link looks okay, too.
