Gav - mine used to run like a dog so I decided to bite the bullet and get a professional to look at it - noting I have gas as well.

First thing was that it was sucking air where the inlet manifold joins the heads - so maybe you are also suffering this issue - this was a no cost diagnosis - they have a spray the is used or if you spray starting fluid around engine revs will pick up as the fluid is sucked in through the leak.

I replaced mine and then took the truck back and less than an hour on the electronic tuneup gear and all was good - $150.

So you can stuff around with it but getting someone to sort it for you is money well spent in my view.

I here you, and you are probably right, but I really, REALLY don't like anyone else touching my cars. Apart from the trannie in the L322 I haven't paid a Mechanic since I was 17 and I always get nervous when someone else is looking at my cars.

Always prefer to learn myself and muddle my way though. If that fails, then I'll try something else...

Never needed to know anything about these carbs until now, so that's why I'm asking.

I'm a stubborn tight wad - I'm the son of a Yorkshireman you know...

You clearly didn't notice our Resident MODfathers further contribution, which he has artfully whisked away to be hidden within the dungeons of AULRO.
However for fear of waking up to a pair of 4.0L heads in my bed, I dare not spill the beans
