Shouldn't move but I have seen them with a fair bit of movement and still not give any trouble
on a 300tdi, how much movement in the front output shaft would you expect?
the last few times i have engaged CDL in high range there has been a vibration when i back off or there is over run......
when i was greasing the drive shafts i noticed some vertical movement in the drive flange
i will invstigate a bit more tonight
should there be any movement?

Kelvin,
There will be some movement just in the nature of the bearing design and assembly. If the flange is tight and the bearing is good you cannot remove it. (the slight amount of play that is)

The bearing can be replaced in situ if its claged LT230 Output bearings & Oil seals:
