    Stereo Electrical Anomaly

I just had a Cd player installed in the Defender (the speakers are boxed neatly into the square section below the B-pillars - photos to come in due course).

Anyway, the installer has hooked it up to the ignition circuit rather than 'accessories'. Is this normal ?

He said that he originally hooked it up to ACC and it worked fine UNTIL the engine was started (ie turned to IGN) at which point the stereo would turn off and not come back on.

How is the stereo hooked up on later Defenders (ie the ones that have it as a factory item) ?

I would really rather have it on the ACC circuit so I can run it while the vehcile is stopped and not just while on the move.

    Any ideas ?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Stereo

    Hi Vlad,
Sounds a bit sussed to me Vlad! My stacker works on the acc on my 97 TDI. When cranking on most engines it will drop out the radio due to voltage drop to get the engines cranking. It should resume where it was playing before. What brand of C.D. player? Do you trust your installer or is he telling you porkie pies ? Let us know how you go. There should be a few audio guru's out there?

    Gaz.

It's an Eclipse brand - which is very good and unlikely to be the culprit, especially as it works well otherwise.

The installer is one that does all the Landy stuff for M.R. Automotive so they have the experience with Landys, but I don't know whether the particular bloke who put it in has done one before or not.

I do have a turbo timer but I don't think this should make any difference - after all it just continues supplying electricity to the ignition curcuit for a few minutes longer, doesn't it !?

Anyone out there have any experience in this ?
As I recall there is an auto-lecky out there somewhere....

    Just dont sound right Vlad.

Should run off the ACC just fine.

Do your other accesories run ok when you have the ACC turned on???

As Kev said take it back and get it looked at.

Is the fuse for the stereo in the fuse box the one with rthe symbol which looks like qa rectangle a circle inside at either end ? (If you look, you'll know what I mean)

Given my Landy didn't come with a radio, would the harness have included stereo wiring (I wouldn't have thought they'd do different harnesses for different spec levels, but rather that they would use the one harness and just not use the parts not required).

All the other Accessories seem to work fine.

    Actually the reverse I believe.

it is cheaper for them to use the one harness, and not use the relavent pins for anything. For example, my subaru has wiring for A/C and seat heaters, but neither is installed.

It is the norm to use just one harness.
