    2012 Defender drive failure 25,000ks

After modest driving, my new Defender gave up yesterday and would only grind in every gear, diff locked or unlocked.

It was towed to the dealer this morning. We'll see what they say!

    90, 110 or 130?

shall we take a punt on what it might be?

Ill guess in order, rear diff, LT230, front diff.

Good luck and make sure they look after you.

    Thanks. It's a 110.

I feel like we should run a book ;-)

Sounds like failed stub shaft is the odds on favourite, with rear diff, lt230 and front diff at slightly longer odds.

Well diff locked rules out a drive-flange.
But it doesn't rule out 2 or more drive flanges.

My 2011 110 32000km has had a whole raft of "metal" parts in the gear box trans area replaced by the dealer. They will not tell me exactly but it was a
    1. flange
    2. spring
    3. various seals
    4. rear drive shafts
    5. rear drive flages

and who knows what else that they are not telling me about.

They will fix it for sure and damage something else in the process

    good luck
    Mal

    So....

a quick voicemail from the dealer this afternoon came through to tell me that the shaft between the gearbox and transfer case is stripped.

Is this the stub shaft? If so, Kudos go to Pete.

I haven't spoken to the dealer yet, but he did say it should be up and running COB Monday.

I don't want to count my chickens.....
