Are you having any problems with your new LR

Hi all, I,m about to clock up my first 1,000,000kms and so far I have had only two major problems with the Rangy. At about 50,000kms I had the front transfer box fail. It turned out to be an alinement problem that they missed in a batch of new Rangies. That one was fixed by LR.
The other problem problem is on going.
I have high profile tyres on the rangy and there is only one make available in Australia and that's Good Year Ranglers and they have got to be the worst tyre I have ever had on a vehicle.
But thats my two only problems, one fixed, one yet to be resolved.
Has anyone else struck a problems with there new LR? :roll:

I presume the first million is in fact 100,000. If not I'll go out and by a RR tomorrow. :wink:

What are the tyre dimensions?

Hi again One_Iota, they are 255/60R18 - 112H.
I can get different makes with either the right speed or weight rating but I can not get another tyre with both the same or higher rating.
The Wranglers are dangerous and noisy, I have had to replace three tyres so far because they had developed bubbles ( there is a technical name for this but I have forgotten it ). The first time I found the bubble by chance, I noticed what I thought was a white mark in the middle of the tread but a closer look showed it to be steel mesh. The rest of the tyre still had plenty of meat on it and it would still have been legal but for a spot the size of a 50 cent piece.
Needless to say, I got rid of the tyre, but I can only replace them with the same tyres.

8) If not a tall story then certainly a high profile one :wink:

Lets see what the brains trust has to say about the tyres.

Not sure about QLD, but in NSW you must have the correct load rating, but the speed rating just needs to be 140km/h+. thats how we all get away with fitting muddies.
Cheers

Sorry but both speed and weight are Federal Gov requirements and if you are involved in an accident and your tyres are not rated at or above the legal listing for your vehicle, you can be held resposible for the accident in the same manor as being done for DUI plus your insurance company can refuse any claim you make, even if you are NOT in the wrong.
Tyre rating is a very sticky subject, best to make enquiries through the NRMA or the likes.

One more point. Tyres sold in Australia, even when made overseas, must have the word "Australia" inbeded in the side wall of the tyre to make it legal for use on Australian roads.

Just adding a little extra, if you check your tyres and don't find Australia on them, don't worry about it, most don't, including mine! :roll:
Good laws ah?

Slunnie is correct.

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrne/vrnint...04A171BCD2A5F8F

The load rating of tyres on vehicles subject to ADRs must be at least equivalent to the minimum ratings shown on the tyre placard.

The original speed rating of the tyre casing must be at least:
for vehicles with a GVM over 4.5 tonne the lesser of:

100km/h; and
the vehicle's top speed.

for vehicles with a GVM of 4.5 tonne or less, with four or more wheels, the lesser of:

140km/h for a passenger car with special features for off-road use such as 4WD;
180km/h for any other passenger car;
120km/h for any other motor vehicle not described above;
the vehicle's top speed.

This is for Vic, and evidently NSW. As Slunnie says, that's how we legally run muddies.

The issue around tyres is the +15mm diameter limit, not the speed rating.

I beg to differ gentelmen, my 15 + years of tyre experience tells me this :

Each individual States RTA or equivalent have certain rules. Those rules relate directly to the Licensing of the vehicle for us on the road in that state.

However ADR's and the Australian Tyre and RIm Association Manual, set out the minimum federal requirements for tyres in the county. On top of all of that each vehicle is fitted with a "Tyre Placard" this sticker denotes the "minimum standard" for tyres to be fitted to that vehicle. Anything less than that standard will result in the refusal of an insurance claim should you have an accident and need to claim. Conversely, should you be in an accident and not be at fauls - I would take it on advice from a legal proffesional that you may not be entitled to payment (but I digress as this is an area of insurance law i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy to get involved in.

Now if i change my hat and put on my blue and white checkered one with silver badge at the front.
If i were to come across a vehicle and its tyres did not conform to the standards set out on the tyre placard then i would be entitled to DEFECT the vehicle on the spot! As the tyres do not comply with the standards set out by the manufacturer.

Now I know this is a touchy subject but this is the way it is - Im not supporting the system, just simplt stating the facts ....

Know this - you may be running large oversize bias (IE not steel radial) muddies on your vehicle and some unscrupulous tyre outlets may even fit them for you - but if you are and they dont compy with at minium the tyre placard then you are just waiting to wear someone elses law suit should you be in an accident.....

Take care

Mick
