D60 stuff is always going to be stronger than 9 inch. Look at a lot of the comp stuff in the states. Most run D60. Custom built 9 inch stuff will cost a small fortune unless you are good on machines and fab work. Lots of money spent for a bit of ground clearance. As for high pinion, well I have seen how well Sals do under a comp car that's done the cliffhanger comp. No worries with drive shaft damage or vibration and no breakages. I know this set up has been flogged harder than most normal built 4x4s , oh and they bolt straight in haha. The cost savings of not having custom 9inch diffs would buy great suspension to control 500hp.

Big call ive heard of cars running 1000hp with a ford 9"..lots of comp guys use 9"s too in the states...im not a diff fabricator so i need to buy something bolt in, and i dont want to loose massive under diff clearance running sals, u basically loose a tyre size 37-35 35-33..and that might not matter to some but try follow guys with 35s and standard pumkins or 9" through deep muddy ruts and it wont be long before u diff out. 37s are not legal on the road so for an engineered car you need to run 35's. Also they are hugely heavy which is not the best thing for engineering. Ford 9" is almost a no compromise and the cost is slightly more that a fully set up Ashcroft axle/diff front or rear. Now that LRA have bitten the bullet and decided to build a jig to make a bolt up 9" for rovers, im even more sold as it wont be a "one off build" and someone is willing to stand behind the finished product. Will be interesting to see how they turn out!
you would have to contact the housing fabricators like Ruffstuff. They will build you a complete housing with all mounts no worries. They would probably need a stock housing to measure from, though at one point they were apparently making front rover type housings for a military contract???
If you are going anything other than a LR housing its going to be custom fabricated. I guess it just comes down to $$. What LRA are doing may be the cheaper option?? I have no idea.
If you are serious and have the doh, id be starting to contact the companies and do your research. Figure out what diff you are going with and then do your price comparisons.
Unless there where 2 seperate contracts, I think the military contracts where to Dynatrac who from what i understand can supply front and rear bolt in D60's disk to disk but to get them to OZ and in your rover its 20k and clearance under pumkin in reduced. Do anyone know of a company that builds a lightweight aluminum high pinion 9" 3rd members?
