Hi,
I have recently purchased a 1999, manual Td5 discovery. I would like to upgrade the engine chip and or ECU. I have been told that the '99 model ECU cannot be chipped or remapped and that I would have to buy a new ECU (which doesn't make sense) to have this chipped and remapped. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Also any other tips to enhance the engine would be awesome too.
Cheers Josh
Yes I beleave early (I think pre 02) td5s have a ecu which can't be remaped or flash tuned (ie. pluged into a computer and have the ecu reprogramed to manage the engine diferently)
Your ecu will have a fixed memory.
I think it can be reprogramed by phisicly changing some things in the ecu (soldering in some new parts) but who does this I'm not to sure.
Bigger intercoolers, ehausts and turbos (or more boost ie. Boost box) will also give the td5 more power but retuning is the only way to make full use of these mods.
Google is your friend or talk to somone who knows a thing or two about tuning td5s
I have a 99 TD5 D2 "Strap on" from PSI Motorsport in Belgium with what is perhaps the latest programme. All it requires is finding the 5 injector wires and soldering in in any order. Strap on sorts them out. Power and earth of course.
