    fuel smell in 1993 la disco

    where is that vapour smell comming from?

    it only does it now and then, and seems to be from the rear near the filler

    any ideas? cant see a leak :?:

    It's not unusual if the tank has just been filled or overfilled, but if it is part way through the tank it might be a blocked breather.

    it tends to happen when there is less fuel in the tank, more vapor pressure i suppose, do the caps play up?

    Could be the cap. I dunno if a new one would solve the problem, could be a blocked breather as pheonix suggests.
    Suppose if you can get at the breathers or the cap use some soap diluted in water in a spray bottle and apply liberally to suspect areas. Bubbles will show fairly rapid leaks so maybe if it smells the most after sitting in the sun for a few hours, that would be the time to do some looking. Remember to use a safe light (battery torch or sealed fluro) if under the vehicle as vapor will ignite very easily.
