    dual and single battery

    Hi Guys,

    I have a 1993 V8 classic and a 2007 Freelander 2 petrol.
    Recently I splashed out and bought a very expensive Odyssey PC1500 battery with this in mind; to use it as the start battery in the Classic (original reason for buying a new battery) and using it as the Auxillary (fridge) battery in the freelander. We use the Freelander for trips, not the classic.

    Ok, two mods I want to do:
    1. Relocate the battery in the classic to the cargo area in the back. Reason: The Odyssey is an AGM dry cell battery and can be located in the cab safely and having it in the car keeps it cooler. Cooler=longer life.
    2. Install dual battery system in the Freelander using the Odyssey mounted again in the cargo area between the fridge and the rear seats.

    Questions are,
    1.what size cable will I need to purchase for the relocation in the classic to minimise voltage drop with the battery in the back?
    2. Would the Traxide SC 80 be the best isolator to use in the Freelander to manage dual battery duties? I'd also assume that whatever size cable is used inthe Rangie would be used in the Freelander too.

    Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
    Moving the battery from one car to the other will only happen when we do a trip.

    I'd use 50mm^2 to the back of the car, 70mm^2 is usually used if it runs a winch.

    Standard battery cables are 35mm^2.

    If you havent unwrapped the battery, send it back - they're not real flash.

    I ran the larger version in my Defender and they just dont cut it...

    Optima Yellow D34 is only $245.00 and easily better..

    I wouldn't get an optima either, since they've moved production to Mexico they just don't cut the mustard anymore. Only got 18 months from a marine one.

    Battery has been in use now for about 3 months so I guess I'm stuck with it!

    50mm2 equates to 0b&s (Not sure what b&s stands for) on ebay at about $16/m

    B&S is just a gauge size, 0 B&S is 50mm^2.

    That cable looks good, double insulated is what you want, otherwise wrap it in split corrugated tube, although I'd even wrap double insulated cable.

    Whatever you get, make sure it is FLEX, normal 50mm^2 cable is very hard to bend!

    You can order it through L&H, John R Turk etc, even some welding supply shops (welding cable will be cheapest).

    Thanks for that info.

    Does anyone have experience with the traxide isolator?

    Hi Richard and while I have not carried out an installation on a Freelander, I have sold a few isolators to Freelander owners.

    So with a bit of luck, one of those owners may read your thread and give you some input on how to fit out a Freelander.
