    TD5 Service Schedule?

Coming from 300tdi world .. I would be very reluctant to only service my TD5 Defender every 20000km's. So the question is .. how often do you guys (and gals) service your TD5's? .. especially oil and filter change?

the td5 has a centifical oil cleaner from what i have read. this alone would significantly reduce oil particle levels, not sure how it affects acid levels etc tho.

i usually do things at 1/2 the milage the manufacturer recommends and have never had a problem using that guideline.

10000k would be what i would be doing it at if the recommended period is 20000k.

sampling via e-monitor.com costs about $24 and i would be doing that on a couple of changes at 10000k just to ensure that is is a reasonable time to do the change.

As you're obviously a Seeth Ifrikin, I recommend changing your oil within the next 24 hours, and replacing it with a mixture of vanilla yohgurt and beach sand, you should then go for a quick lap around the block to "bed it in"....that way your defeat at the hands of the mighty WALLABIES wont seem so bad. Especially when the first try is scored by OUR Clyde!

    May the best team win.

    Td5 Oil changes.

I'm the same Henry, the thought of that filthy oil going around my engine is not conducive to peace of mind whatever LR say. I'll change mine every 10000, plus the filter regardless of the centrifrugal spinner.

Mines just had it's 20000klms. service and what a mess!
Clutch main cylinder had a slight drip so they changed it and didn't adjust it and it was biting and soon as my foot came of the floor.
Didn't appear as if any plugs had been removed for draining or inspection, engine oil was grossly overfull!
I took it back and they adjusted the clutch and that was it.
Oh I forgot, they left filthy paw marks all over the bonnet and when I took it back, they rubbed them off with a filthy rag!
No wonder they're called the "Main Stealers"!!!

    Hi Guys
The oil sampling Incisor mentions is worth looking at.I was looking at the report from one of the machines at work, not only does it tell you the condition of the oil,it shows metals, silicas(from dirty aircleaners) and also picks up where opertators have added incorrect grade oils!!and a few other things ie H20.
If I ever end up owning a new or pretty new diesel I think I would invest in such a maintence issue.
It could also warn of an upcomming engine problem that could help you decide to sell or keep.

I have a 300tdi, oil and filter every 5000ks, running very sweet after 120000ks and still have full compression. Will be good for at least a half million. Oil and filter is cheap compared to a rebuild. Diesels have blowby gases that contaminate the oil, thats why it is black. Engines running on gas have virtually no blowby contaminants thats why their oil is new looking after 10000ks. Petrol engines are in between, which shows a lesser amount of contaminant than the carbon that diesels produce. Either way, a filter will only get so much of the diesel oil contaminant and when it fills, will bypass within itself.
Make it last change it fast.

    Oil changes

I change my oil every 10,000 as the vehicle is used quite hard in the Tropics. The service sheet (not a very user friendly doc "LRL 0306ENX(4)") seems to concur with this but the cost of the recommend Castrol oil TXT softec LL01 is a bit of a shock!

With my defender TD5 I change the oil every 5000kms, the spinner and filter every 10,000kms. Rangie oil every 5000kms and oil and filter every 10000kms. Extremely dusty dirty muddy trips, all as soon as trip over.
