May be better on paper, but on the road I am not so sure. My Td5 is far nicer to get going on the road and through 1st and 2nd than my Tdci is. Once into 3rd the Tdci is far nicer however.
The Tdci obviously has the 1.2 transfer case as well but the ratios of first and second don't seem very well matched IMO
4.337 / 3.32 = 1.30 is how they come up with the 30% figure. They really should just quote low range ratio.
It is not 30% lower but a 30% higher ratio.
You could always twin stick the TC makes low to high easyfor the uphill starts and put an exhaust brake for the downhills
