I have seen series 3's towing loaded car trailers, so they are obviously up to it. Can't help with the legalities however, sorry.
ops: Can anyone tell me what the legal towing capacity is for a Series III? I have searched the internet but to no avail. 8)

(may depend on wheelbase, but mostlikly 2ton or so?)
I know that you can't tow as much as the vehicle weights, so it would be under the 2.7T GVM of my LWB S3.
Have you had a look in the worshop manual in the download page?? first chapter states it somewhere i'm sure.
