			Tacho swap?

I would like to swap the clock in my Defender for a tachometer. Any suggestions where I can find a tacho (VDO) that will fit the space in the instrument panel? :?:
Found this on the web .. outline on how to do the job. http://www.lowtension.com/landrover.htm
Thanks,

					Henry
You can get one from Lowtension (the site above). I have installed one anf found it to be excellent value. Makes you wonder why Land Rover do not provide one or at least as an optional extra????

Henry, which Defender do you need the tacho for?
If it's for the TD5, then LR can supply # YAE 100790. It doesn't come with wiring apparently but to hook it up it connects to the engine speed signal on pin# 19 on the engine ECU as stated in your link.

Through Trivetts it's $213.70 trade, $244.80 retail (both inc GST). LR have them in stock.
It might be worthwhile ringing the other LR places (BMI, Karcraft ?) & quote the part # - maybe a bit cheaper.

Wouldn't think you'd get it any cheaper than that as most gauges cost about the same that being the $250 mark (retail) if they are any good. Well they were about six months ago when I started asking similar questions, didn't matter where they were VDO or AutoMeter or any other brand, leccy or tube operated..... all the same cost.

I have a Lowtension (VDO) one and it cost 55 pounds. Plus shipping, customs etc. It's pin 18, from memory, not 19.

I haven't worked out why people are so worried by the lack of tacho. Who really uses them (apart from us P38A owners whose ECUs make the transmission do funny things - like start in 3rd gear and stay there until the next diagnostic reset after a power down/restart --- shades of Windows)?
