    300 TDI ENGINE

I have been told by a very reliable and a master of all Landrovers as far as machanical knowledge and repairs go that after a 300 motor has had 2 or 3 head shaves due to overheating that its a waste of time reuseing it as the head developes soft spots internaly and internal cracks will develop that can not be seen by the eye He says that you can have a head tested but its just as cheap to buy a new one.
I first meet this bloke about 7 yrs ago at the time he owned about 300 landrovers from Ser1 to yesterdays Range Rover, the last two visits to Townsville in the past 6 months has seem a lot of the older rusted beyound any further use cleared out and a very large collection of Disco's, Defenders and later model stuff. His st I would love to post pictures but I have promised not to. His sock would now be around 200 again.
He trades as LANDROVER ONLY if any one is ever in the region and needs a good machanic look him up.

the 300Tdi head can actually be 'softened' and then re-hardened and in fact be made into a much better head - it was 'soft' from the manufacturer and hence some of the head problems experienced with them, usually around 150k. Chris Milton Engine Developments in Adelaide has perfected this method and you end up with a much better head. He does an exchange service too (I am not associated with them but they have done my 300Tdi head and also my Clevo heads for my custom Windsor/Cleveland hybrid - the Clevor). BUT you must use the correct gasket or you just waste your time - the multi layered with I believe a copper core but I might be wrong there about the copper.

And Turner Engineering sell rebuilt (virtually remanufactured) heads, both standard and gas-flowed.
