Outback Ideas Recovery Points

    Outback Ideas Recovery Points

I got myself a couple of these to fit to the front of my ARB bar. They are solid as a rock, unlike the 'loops' that ARB provide (which would just about be strong enough to hang the thing up while its powdercoated  )

The Outback Ideas items are suitable as a universal fitment, despite having been conceived as a direct replacement for the rear of Nissan Patrols (they have a crappy loop from the factory).

Specifications (as provided by John at Outback Ideas)
Manufactured from 12mm plate (backing plate is 6mm).
Tested breaking strain of 13 ton.
    Bolt hole spacing is 85x45mm.
Bolts are grade 8 (high tensile).
Powdercoated in black (or red, if you prefer).

Price: $150 per pair or $80 per single (includes postage)

If you buy a pair, this is what you get.

As you can see, they are solid units.

Where I fitted mine to the bar. Shouldn't restrict any roller fairleads I might mount in the future, nor any high-lift jack adaptor. I hope.

View from above demonstrates they don't protrude any further forward than other parts of this bar. An issue that is important, legally.

Side view of points mounted to bar.

(There are a couple of other pics in the Outback Ideas gallery on p6 of my main gallery)

While not used in real anger yet, a Vitara did try to snatch me out of soft sand during the sand-driving course I did. (I had to dig holes with a shovel to roll my wheels into, coz I couldn't bog it ) This must have put a deal of stress on the points, with no ill effects. And they do inspire confidence, they are a solid bit of gear.

If you're interested, contact John from Outback Ideas on email:

    outbackideas@three.com.au

Please mention that Michael Reed (yeah, that's me) mentioned it on the AULRO.com website. Thanks.

Note: I have no commercial interest in this product, and am simply posting this info to add to the general "recovery points" information out there in AULRO-land. Cheers

P.S. Sorry I took so long Henry. ops:

No reason you couldn't bolt one or two to the chassis at the back - but there are other options here as well - like the recovery hook I have, or the hayman reese towbar setup I have recently acquired...

And the pen is mine. But I can sell it to you at mate's rates

Wonder what sort of community service you'd get for the theft of a bic pen :?:
