    aircraft landing lights

? Ive seen a few fourbys advertised in the second hand market as having aircraft landing lights as spotties. Are they really that crash hot and where do these people dig them up.

    G'day Mick

    A few points to ponder.

They certainly are bright ... read will blind a mole at 10K.
They are also usually 24V .. a tad of a prob here.
As I understand it 100W is max legal, and I believe these little suckers exceed that by a tad.

    Might be wrong tho........

    Cheers

Hmmm People will laugh and point but up here im more concerned with black bulls in the middle of the road than legalities. Im gonna have to start making up little stickers for the roadkill that i can put on the wing. I have been squirriling away for a decent set of spotties but if i can save some bucks im happy. Theyd definately have to come off when i get back to civillization though.

Most of ones I have seen are 28volt sealed beamed units. Very bright and go a long way with spot pattern.

There must be a way to make them work.

Forget the aircraft landing lights. They are 28V.

Get a decent set of automotive lights.
    Lightforce are fantastic.

Hi Mick-Kelly, few years ago I was working in the bush and got to know a few locals. One was a guy who’s father had a light aircraft and got his hands on a box of USA made GE 12 volt 250 watt sealed beams Spots.
They fitted into a standard seal beam driving light housing.
Don’t know where you get them but they are great out on the long straights at night. BUT when you dim, you are blind.
    Cheers

Just a by the way, I recently changed my standard 130 watt driving light globes to Phillips Crystal Vision 55 watt globes.
Although the globes are only rated at 55 watts, Phillips show them having the same light as 100 watt.
The light is as bright as the 130 watts and the light is WHITE.
They light up roos at about double the distance than the 130s did. I think that is more down the the white light rather than the brightness.
Just some thing to think about as they may work as well on seeing black bulls.
    Cheers
