I used a 24v Isuzu truck one- with a 12v relay- on my Perentie and it works fine - maybe a half second delay. but I haven't taken it for a RWC yet.

Unfortunately, post about 1982? ADRs require the edic or similar - and in this state at least, we have annual inspections. (Mind you, I have seen quite a few vehicles round here with a length of fencing wire! Unlikely to get caught)

If you wish to sell it registered and thus need a Safety Certificate, and if the Authorised Inspector is on the ball you will be refused one. The vehicle is unroadworthy as it does not comply with the ADR's.

Ok, I visited the Perentie today.
I found the cut off valve. I traced the cable back to a grey pouch in the firewall containing something hard. From that, there was a wiring loom that disappeared into the fire wall near the clutch master cylinder. At that point there was an in line blade fuse holder with a 10A blade fuse in it. I removed the fuse. It wasn't blown. I replaced the fuse and guess what, my whirring noise is back. I'm confident the Perentie will start.
Thanks for your assistance and teachings everyone. I am slowly learning about these fine machines.

Good work. I think the standard location for the fuse on County is behind the instrument binnacle (at least is its on my daughter's one), so its great if the Perentie one is accessible.

That grey pouch contains the EDIC motor/mechanism. Think of it as a watertight bag with an unsealed opening in the top - containing electrical and mechanical bits that don't like to swim.
Since the EDIC is still working, I'd nip the lowest bottom corner off the bag to allow it to drain and make sure it can't collect water.
