    Ok getting a bit stuck.

Having removed the wheels and the bolts for the drive flanges, I am now having trouble trying to remove the actual flanges. Is there a trick to this? Is the grease seal stop me getting it off?

    Cheers,

    BadCo.

Never mind, cold chisel and hammer got it.

Some interesting photos for you, surprised that the axle has rust spots on it and what happened to the hub nut!?

This is the passenger side, there was a little bit of play between drive flange and axle, but nothing serious.

Moving onto the drivers side now.

Drivers side is the same deal. Axle a bit pitted, splines are fine, hub nut the same state with the bent bits.

On a side note, when I removed the passenger side axle, there was a clunk from the diff and now it won't go back in, thoughts?

Also, if the truck is out of gear and hand brake off and you spin the rear prop shaft nothing happens. No grinding or anything, same with the axles. Someone stole my diff

The nuts look fine bent bits are the locking washer between the two nuts If you had the both axles in and spun the rear tailshaft and nothing turned time to remove the cover off the diff

Yeah I figured that was the next step so have started draining the diff. Good times.

While the cold chisel worked on the drive flanges, I'm struggling to get the diff cover off.

EDIT: Finer screw driver did it!

Ok so how to remove the diff? I read a few posts and people said they fell out, and fell straight back in. But looking at the workshop manual there are a few interesting tools there...

You did have both axles in when you spun the tail shaft? Remove both axles both bearing caps and lever the diff out no special tools required

Long Axle won't go in and there was a clunk when I first took it out to check the splines.

When turning the propshaft I could see the cross-shaft pinions spinning around the upper diff wheel (reading off the workshop manual here).

Will try and remove the diff tomorrow when I have daylight again.
