    CDL Issues

    Hi everyone,

Just today I finally took my Perentie 110 out for some proper 4wding. Chucked it in low, CDL on, good to go!

Unfortunately the whole time I felt like I was dragging the arse of the truck the whole way along the tracks. I spent most of the time having to be recovered from stuff I shouldn't have even worried about. It almost felt like I was driving a front wheel drive car, and the rear diff was doing nothing.

Then when I had had enough for the day, I popped it out of low and pushed the CDL button in, and nothing. There is no drive with the CDL disengaged!?

I've tried all sorts of combinations, first gear, reverse, high/low ratio, but nothing. The motor revs and it feels like its in neutral.

So I ended up limping home with CDL engaged, taking it as easy as I could. Tomorrow I will take it into the mechanics, but for now anyone have any ideas?

I have a jack and two axle stands if there are any suggestions for me to try. Man I hope I haven't damaged anything seriously!

    Thanks in advance,

    BadCo.

Did it positively engage back into high range? Or was the transfer case in neutral? Reading that you limped home I feel as though it did make it into high range again. So it sounds like you have a problem with the rear end. Either a broken axle or a failure in the diff.

Yeah I did get back into high. Oh man, neither of those problems sound fun!

Being the rear end its easier than the front. Id start by pulling your drive flanges and axles. You'll soon know that way if its an axle or a diff. Also the possibility the drive flange/axle splines are stripped and nothing is actually "broken". Thats pretty optimistic thinking though.

Jack the back end up and rotate the wheels by hand see if you hear any odd grinding noises, then same at the front. Then turn the wheels hard to the left and rotate then the other way and try the same this could identify if it's a cv joint. That may help id which end is the problem and give you a starting point. Then as with the other reply pull the rear axles and check them out. Best of luck hope it's not too major

Thanks for the responses, I'll try a few of these out and see how it goes. Otherwise I'll just wash the mud off and take it to the mechanic.

The guy I bought the car from fitted cv's, drive flanges, and stub axles from a mid 80's RRC to a early 90's maxidrive dif and axles.

With vehicle in gear and CDL locked, jack up each wheel one at a time. If it spins freely, time to remove and check the axle. If you can't turn the wheel (hits engine compression), then move onto the next wheel.

Crap, that's pretty bad. I wouldn't think the army had any RRC's to pinch the bits out of though.

I'll give this a go when I get home. Where is the best place to jack the Perentie? I've only owned it for four weeks, so I'm still finding my way around it.

    Cheers
