This happend to me on first the drivers side then the passenger side.
I bought the "X" parts from Triumph Rover Spares in Adelaide - but most LR independent sales should carry them.

Well I was pleased as punch to have fixed my oil leak as previously posted.
THEN NOW... I heard a loud bang as I lowered the passenger side front window.
On inspection today I see that the plastic guide wheel looks like it has broken away from the window track and the "X" arm that these attach has one arm twisted.
Is this an easy repair ( meaning easy to get out and new one back in) and can this part be bought without having to buy the whole motor and sundries as an assembly.
I have heard that the runner wheels are a commmon breakage?

PS - passenger side one was broken my technician at Bob Jane - so they had to pay up.
Only issue was it was Easter and it was raining - window was locked down.
I had to chock up the window with a bit of timber inside the door frame.

I've just checked my price list from Karcraft and they sell the Window regulator for Disco LHF (part number CUH102310for $95.45 + GST
or if its a RR LHF (part number RTC3815A) for $143 + GST
Cannot remember if you had a Disco or RR
The repair is real easy - esp after doing a couple.
Take door panel off, disconnect the motor, unbolt the regulator, take the whole lot out via the bottom of the door, swap motor over and refit in the reverse.

I did a search on Discoweb and got to the tech section....
I chap repaired the broken window regulater wheels by using nylon door/window rollers of the same size avail at hardware stores.
I begrudge paying $100 plus for a part so I might go the repair modification way . There was also a guy who had a couple rollers made by an Aluminium shop as the OEM plastic ones are common to break.
I keep you posted if it is successful ,or even if not
If interested here is the link for the repair from Tech section of Disco web.

What I have discovered though, in removing the Trim Panel is the 'pins in the retainers don't pop out that easily, a couple actually remained in the door panel and ripped out from the PVC foam trim backing. This happened once before when I had to remove the bacjk door trim. I just araldited them back on. But is there a full proff method of removiving them without this happening?
Hi, i had that problem when i was pulling the trim of the doors on my escort. I lost a couple, now i just get a screw driver in between the door and where the plastic clip is fixed to the trip and slowly prise it off. Works a treat. Matt

Well I couldn't get the regualator arms off the window track as the track ends are crimped down . I ended up having to undo all the top door frame to lift it with the regulator arms attached then gained access to remove them.
I found that the eletric window winder motor uses some sort of short torx screws too and had to remove the regulator and motor assembly as one.
I went to Bunnings and found lots of roller guide wheels but the closest in diameter was a nice roller ball bearing job. I spent the $3.60 and when I got home found the nylon outer " tyre" was tooo think in width for it to slide into the window channel.
Trying to reduce the thickness made the wheel unusable as it destroyed the bearing case.
Looks like having to fork out the bickies and get a proper one.
But I am still going to see if I can source somes runner wheels as it is bound to happen to the other windows, and an improved version would be great.
Whilst searching the net, I found a pic of a window regulator. The difference I noticed on this one was that the runner is not a round wheel like mine, but looks like a rectangle piece of plastic.
Idea I came up with is to fabricate a rectangle one from a scrap of teflon, counter sink a bolt into it and let the bolt rotate and the teflon slide in the track.

There's a local guy up here in Rockhampton that makes the rollers from brass, fitted them to a couple of Discoverys now without any problems. Anthony.
I had to replace the scissor mechanism on my RR, the teeth were worn and the window was getting jammed. It cost me $35 for a good second hand scissor mechanism (complete) and the job was less than an hour. It may be cheaper & easier to replace with second hand that to repair.
