Did You know this 'Can' happen to a diesel (Death by oil)

The EU3 Td5 had a throttle body as part of the EGR system, EU2 motors did not.
I know Graeme on here used his EGR throttle body to choke the engine if oil pressure dropped after start up (oil pump bolt), so I assume you could use it for a similar function as Dougal mentioned. However, I think his comment was more in reference to slightly more modern diesel engines than the Td5.
Td5s run away from leaking injector O rings and occasionally cracked heads, but it's not common.
Why it pays to check your oil level :)

by that premise, there should be about 1000 merged threads just from the last few months

Why the thread title change????

rubs me the wrong way considering what has gone in to this thread has been quite personal and time consuming....

Oh and im yet to find a EGR valve on my engine (that the thread was about) so maybe I should go add one just so I can be apart of it again....

If the mods feel the need to do what they have done here, I would argue more other threads that should have been delt with first.

I can understand the practice of merging threads where the poster has posted the same post twice or more in different sections of the forum often using the same title. I can't see the need to merge different posters posts with different titles and different subjects.

I know it is a thankless task to be an admin but some practices just draw the crabs.

What two threads on diesel runaways with the same video in either the very first post or relatively close to the begining of the thread are different subjects?

Can't see that one. Maybe its the middle of the thread tangent that should be extracted.

I would happily merge every thread on D3 D4 or RRS trailer sockets, or the many on electric brake controllers or what: Tyre, shock, spring, sand mat, trailer, . ad nauseam should I buy.

Just don't have enough hours in the day.

The reason the names changed, the original "2012s biggest idiot (Death by Oil)" had been unused for nearly 2 months, so the title of the new thread with the bracketed ending were used so everyone got a bit of the pie.

I think most people don't notice when threads are merged - it happens on a daily basis. I agree with Diana here - the threads were basically the same in the end, so they were merged.

No biggy, let's all just get on with the subject matter.:)

I have nothing else to add to this thread, id be happy if you deleted the first 44 pages actually, and happy for you to delete all threads I have started.

Why the obsession with the merging of threads? It just draws the crabs, it is not about who is right or wrong, it's about having contributors to a forum that attract others to enjoy the forum.

I don't know why you call it an obsession.

The moderators seem to me to be trying to make it easier for us to find information. If two threads are covering the same ground, there is less chance that we will miss part of the information if threads are combined.

In this case the second runaway diesel thread probably looked like an illustration of a problem that had been discussed in an earlier thread.

Given that the moderators are only human (or so they would have us believe) I think it is unreasonable to expect them to combine every "What oil/ tyre/ bushes/ spanner/ polish/ fan belt/ fuel additive should I be using? thread. There are just too many of them. There is not much need to combine threads like that. We probably won't miss much information because the same comments will be made repeatedly in a great number of posts.

It is precisely because there are so many threads on those topics that it is impossible and unnecessary to merge them.

However, threads about "death by oil" or "runaway diesels" are thankfully fairly rare. So it is humanly possible to merge them and it actually does increase the chances of us finding all the information about what is an important. but fairly rare occurrence.

Maybe sometimes the mods get it wrong, but some people seem determined find fault and look for some way they have been disadvantaged by a merge without considering that there might have been some advantage.

However all of that is just speculation on my part. The mods might disagree. :)

Serg's thread was more about continual problems with his vehicle though. While it might not have been as personalised as a members rides thread, it's still specifically about the problems with his vehicle, which are not limited to runaway diesels.
I say change it back. If you want a combined thread about runaway diesels then go for it, but I think you picked the wrong thread to merge it with.

Anyway this thread has had so much publicity lately and would have popped up in "New Posts" searches so often that more people have probably seen it since the merge than would have seen it if it had remained separate. :D
