I would be more than dirty Serg. I feel for you having this happen so soon after all the work you had done.
Not sure of any other parts to order, but you'll obviously need to change oil, oil filter and coolant. At a guess valve clearances will need to be done afterwards, so maybe a rocker cover gasket (altho yours is probably good condition still - they can generally be reused a few times).
yeah its so close to 20k that I will get that stuff done or do some myself. I usually do the oil changes through out, do the fuel filter, sedimenter. Valve clearancec will be done. It also has a small oil leak at or around the oil filter housing. I have told him this and hopefully it can get sorted. It never leaked any oil the 70k before I blew it up......man what a **** up, its still biting me in the arse!
I also need to tell him to ditch the exhaust manifold - turbo gasket he used. It never had one and didnt leak and now it does....

60nm+60nm (bet the first ones move upto an additional 30 degrees once you get the outside ones done) for the torquing stage before you goto angles, Get the gear in early enough or late enough and I'll bring down the good tools for you as a sympathy gesture
did you get all the machined surfaces checked for true? runaway diesels usually get bent. you will probably take advantage from using parted gaskets on the inlet exhaust.Quote:

I would also probably have to confirm that the 2.8tgv bolts are the same as the Tdi and same procedure before running off to the shed.....And forget the ARP stud kit, @ over $400 its not worth it when genuine head bolts can be had easier and ALOT cheaper

well I must have killed a few chinamen. Its definitely the head gasket, but the bigger issue is the deck of block. At this early stage I have been told it looks like the deck could be concaved or such down the center front to back. The mechanic is getting the machinist out to double check it, but its looking like engine out, strip, remachine deck and reassemble. :mad:
I wounder if the guy getting his old 120 serviced would swap.........
Surely that should have been checked when it was rebuilt last time Serg. I can't believe that has occured since then.?
If its that bad, even a steel rule over it would have probably been enough to spot it at the time.
Who did the work last time?
The block was completely machined: Bored, decked etc. Head was fully checked, decked and rebuilt. New genuine gaskets, bolts, pistons, rings etc through out.
I have no idea about checking? Nathan at Works by Willson did the machining.
I would have thought that since it already had 70k on it, plus the over rev, that the cast block be settled by then???
I find it all a little hard to believe as well Serg. My only thought is that the HG leaking and the warping of the head are cause and effect. I.E. The HG went, then as a result the head has warped during the last few kms of driving. I can't imagine it would take much extra or difference in heat between 2 points to warp.
If the HG was gone, having the head decked isn't a huge amount extra. Some would say do it anyway. So although it's frustrating, perhaps don't read too far into the warping....

Warped head maybe, although I would say that was unlikely, but to have a warped block after only a very minor overheat looking at your sequence of events is IMO really really unlikely...
You have my sympathies mate. What a nightmare, esp with it being your work truck.
P.S. Sorry, just re-read your post. You said deck of block, not head. :eek:
I'm with Psimpson7. Hopefully when they get it checked the block is fine.
