What is the difference between a turbo-charger and a super-charger?
Don't want to get pedantic, but the true answer is .... nothing. Both are names for a device that creates forced induction.

That said, in modern parlance, Dougal's answer is correct, but when turbos were first conceived ( a lot longer ago than people think ), they were called 'exhaust gas driven superchargers'. 'Turbo' is just a much simpler way of saying it.

Anything that forces induction is a supercharger, be it a Rootes, Weland, Garrett or a leaf blower ( which doesn't really work ).

    Great thread, by the way.

Watching the video at the 3min mark there seems to be nothing below 2000RPM and then a sudden ship load from 2 to 3,I'd like to see a clear graph showing the figures. Pat

Pause the video 4 seconds from the end and you see the torque curve. Looks to show 290Nm at 2000rpm and then it just continues to climb to its peak at 2750rpm.

Which would put it right in the guts of that 80-110 km/h range in top gear, nice.
