What is the difference between a turbo-charger and a super-charger?
Don't want to get pedantic, but the true answer is .... nothing. Both are names for a device that creates forced induction.
That said, in modern parlance, Dougal's answer is correct, but when turbos were first conceived ( a lot longer ago than people think ), they were called 'exhaust gas driven superchargers'. 'Turbo' is just a much simpler way of saying it.
Anything that forces induction is a supercharger, be it a Rootes, Weland, Garrett or a leaf blower ( which doesn't really work
).
Great thread, by the way.
