Which is where my thinking is.

Seems backwards to me to have a huge air storage with a small compressor. Sure I can see there'd be a buffer for a while but you'd quickly catch up with air use and still end up waiting for it to build up pressure again. It should be the tank is a temporary storage not a device to hide the handicap of the compressor.

The idea is to have a compressor than can handle the demand like repressurising tyres on an endless duty cycle but the tank for lesser stuff like switching air diff locks. Comes down to cost, space and aspiration I guess.

Defender200tdi has the right idea. 8cfm is ample for most off road stuff, air brushing new scratches or blowing on that spray on mud stuff. When the problems start to crop up will take determination to keep fixing.

I get the brother outlaw to repressure my tyres after a beach sprint mostly cause I'm lazy. Yep takes about 30 mins/vehicle with his cheap little shoebox thing but I do the right thing... my Engel always has grog in it so it's all good. Can take hours for all I care. another idea (which i havent tested yet) is an oil pressure switch of say a ford(or whatever works at a suitable pressure) to operate the relay to regulate the on off(switching on and off) cycle of the compressor.

im working on a similar setup using my little electric pump as i dont have enough room for an air con compressor under my bonnet.

Hi Jay
Once you have access to compressed air,it opens up all the uses of a home compressor.Air duster, rattle gun,air rachet, blowing up air mattresses in a reasonable time. Then there is water rockets for the kids(and adult kids).
Not totally needed,but pretty handy.
Other air storage tanks I have seen are roll bars and roo bars.A good use of an airspace you already have.

If all goes well may have a few boys from work over next week to christen the setup.

Speaking of homebrew, a mate of mine (who's right into it) got sick of bottling it so he modified his shed fridge to accept a keg. Made a tap come out through the side so it's outside the fridge so all you see is the fridge with a tap hanging out. It's great, just pour your own, always cold and don't have to worry about running out as he usually has another keg standing by.

Gee it's a great setup, might be worth some thought for you.

Sorry to interupt the beer chat <lick lips> but another idea I've seen is to use a scuba dive bottle. They hold enormous preasure/volume and cost around $100 on ebay - plus the other bits. I read somewhere that a guy inflated 30 sets of muddies from one bottle.

Where you would get a tank filled to 5000 psi is another question.

Does anyone have more info on this setup? I'd be interested in one myself.

Bruce.

its not filled with air but rather CO2 gas...just like the 'AIR UP" system that is out now.

there is no way one tank of air will fill that many tyres..it wont even fill two.

I guess you're taking about "Air Up" which uses Carbon Dioxide.

www.air-up.com

Some people use Nitrogen costs more I think.

You can get cylinders through CIG, BOC Gases in the usual change over/swap/rent proceedure.

Home brew kegs rock!! I'm sick of bottling beer and can't wait to get a keg system. I've got a Cascade pale down at the moment, it just came "of age" the other day. Had a taste test and it was fantastic!!
I might have have to go have one now.

Cheers Larns
