Noise from engine bay 1995 v8 disco.

Hello all, there is a soft " squealing" noise coming from the vicinity of the front of the engine bay. I have replaced the serpentine belt but the noise continues. I am only getting this noise when the engine is hot and ive checked the power steering ( not there) and the alternator seems to be ok, which leaves the air con compressor, water pump, and cooling fan.
Im getting really frustrated as i cant seem to locate this noise . Any help would be greatfully recieved. Thanks. :x

I have something similar. Really high pitched squeal, not overly loud, but very high pitched, like a whistle. I tracked mine down to the RHSF brake assembly. Also discovered that it doesn't occur when the brakes are activated.
My solution? I drive around with my foot resting on the break pedal.....no annoying whistle. 8O

I'm with Inc.

The next horse running and likely to win in the Melbourne Cup is called Bearing.

We need a FAQ on this.

It's a simple fix (with complications).

Sorry for the curt reply. 8)

There is a search engine in this place.

Search for "idler AND bearing"

We have accumulated some knowledge here.

It is free and available. That makes this place good.

Yep... If you've already checked out the alternator then I'd go for the tensioner.

Tensioner bearing BUT just as a test squirt water onto belt to see of noise changes. Some belts make differing noises at different temps.
If it fixes you know you can leave it alone.

if all the above fails...take the belt off and spin things by hand to see if any bearings feel worn.

did this noise just start suddenly or was it always there and you only just noticed it?

power steering pumps make some strange noises.

Took the disco to " LANDROVER" for the first time ever to find out once and for all what this IRRITATING n oise was and it came down to the VALLEY GASKET was leaking. The air intake was pushing air into the head and in turn the air was escaping through the gasket as it is leaking. I asked the "lovely" gentleman at Landrover Dealer at Wooloongabba in Brissy what the part cost , $46.00. I was quite suprised it was cheap but the next question of how much to have fitted dropped me flat. They charge -------$106.00/HR FOR LABOUR. I DONT THINK SO WAS MY REPLY.
The job would take 5hrs.
South tweed autos will do the same fitting and also check everything out for $225.60. I know where im going.
