Hi Simon
If it idles ok but stalls with the brake pedal, chances are you have a sick brake booster(assuming you have one being a SER 3)

I need to pick your collective brains. I have a series III 2.25 petrol. Today I travelled to work and back as normal however when I went out tonight I found it has started stalling when I throttle off as I come to a stop. At revs it seems fine.
The only thing generally wrong prior to this was that the timing need adjustment however I wasn't missing just spluttered sometimes when I turned it off.
Any input appreciated......
Simon

Thanks for that Andrew. However even at idle now it sounds ill almost as if it's idling far to low?? If I use the choke to up anti it seems okay of a while but after about 30 seconds it spullters again....
sounds like its flooding.
does it blow black smoke just as its stalling?

						No Tony.
No smoke at all.......
Thanks
Simon
have you checked the timing?
it sounds like its too advanced.
check that first then we go from there.
it might be all it the problem is.

Check that the points gap has not closed up or dirty points , are you sure the timing was not retarded more than it should be when it was checked, that would fit with the engine revs being too low and stalling .... that is if every thing else is ok

I agree with Joatt, try the pionts. Inspect them for surface burns and craters, if thats alright start from scratch and set them up again and double check gap an timing.

Fuel filter
Blocked idle jet
Fuel pump
Air leak around the inlet manifold
That it revs and idles with the choke sounds like fuel mixture.... until it runs out of fuel which is the 30secs.
If it's "running on" after the ignition is turned off indicates poor timing, chambers are getting too hot and have a carbon lining which kinda acts like a glow plug, hence the other term for running on is "dieseling".
Make sure when you check the timing as Joatt suggests you wiggle the dizzy shaft for movement, if it flops about like licorice sounds like a stuffed bush, which might also be why the timing is all out of wack. Common failure on the 4cyl. If it's okay check the dizzy cap for white 'stuff' on the contacts and the rotor button isn't too worn.
Timing, advance or points, then check the fuel pump.
