Thread: Head light switch again.

This is a common know fault, after displaying the usual common symptoms. Parking up the previous night good lights, too only side lights operating and the headlights only working when the ignition is on or engine running. I removed the head light switch and it looks like new too me. What do you think?,

I can second the kit from Tim, easy way to go. I also got another dual fuse relay and set it up so the spotties are on one and the headlights on another.

Depends on the model but all TD5 Defenders dont have a relay for the headlights as standard so just a matter of time until the contacts melt.

AFAIK the only headlight relay any Defender has is the one which only allows the headlights to work when the ignition is on. In the standard config. the full headlight current still has to go through the switch, which eventually succumbs.

First thing any Defender owner should do if the vehicle is in standard trim, is to fit a relay so that only controlling current goes through the switch, & the main headlight current is supplied via the relay.

As previously mentioned, Drivesafe's kit is the obvious one to go for.
