Squeaky Brakes !!
Hi guys, having problems with my brakes, they just keep squeaking when there cold, I have just put new bendex 4wd pads and new discs all round plus some red anti-squeak stuff on the back of the pads !!
Only seems to happen when cold or when you haven't used the brakes for 10-20 mins !!!
Any ideas :?:
Matt.

A fact of life with modern asbestos-free pads I'm afraid. You could try chamfering the edges of the pads a bit. It sometimes helps.

chamfer the leading edge of each pad heavily.
deglaze each pad with course sandpaper.
cut a groove down the centre of each pad with a hacksaw.
and make sure the shims are fitted correctly on the back of each pad.
if this dont work the problem is in your stereo system.

That may be the truth.
Hardie (asbestos) Ferodo (brake pads) used to sponsor the Bathurst 500 (miles).
Asbestos = Plutonium 8O
We have to put up with brake squeal for the sake of mesothelioma.
If you change brake pads for a living then what would you choose?
Asbestos compound or something else?
That is reality.

The harder the pad the more they squeal and the faster they wear the rotors but the better the stopping performance. Partly 'cos they stick steel fibre in the pad material so in essence... steel on steel.
Soft pads = more rotor life can 'fade' with over use
Hard pads = less rotor life resist 'fade' with constant use
Depends on how you drive as to what pads, stab at the brakes as you approach corners too fast...use hard pads, poke along and stop occassionally...use soft pads.
There is a mob that used to make soft, medium and hard pads, coloured green, red and purple. The name of the company I can't remember... but a medium pad would be the go if you mix up your driving a bit but don't want squeally brakes. They are in Sydney though....
