d1 Auto in a Defender Fill level.

I have a ZF 4hp22 transmission in my TD5 Defender. Im about to do a fluid / filter change and want to know im doing the right thing. Info im finding refers to the D2 transmission without the dipstick. Mine has one.
So first there is no refill plug. I assume this is where the dipstick enters the sump??? So if thats the case could i not measure exactly how much fluid drains out and replace the same volume via the dipstick tube ?
Is there a specific measured volume recognised as being correct if i choose this method?
here is a pick to show what i have.
Thanks for all advice its always very much appreciated.
    Happy Xmas Tim

You fill via the dipstick tube, slow painful process it is.
Level is checked with engine running and trans in neutral on level ground.

    Thanks for that.
I figured that was the case but so close to xmas and a trip to Byron just around the corner , i really wanted to make sure.
Hardest part was taking the cross member off to remove the sump. Could not wriggle it off with the oil pickup in place. Next time ill just take that off instead.

Hmmmm, so dipstick nut was very tight to get off the other day.
Noticed a leak yesterday after a hundred ks and decided this morning to remove and apply some AN fitting sealant and re fit.
Nut sheared off the sump!!!!! Thin metal and previous owners love of over tightening everything on this car has bitten me on the arse on Boxing day of all days! Not happy. Chance of getting a new sump or this one welded is zilch at the moment so im going to try a patch and tap a new fill hole.
    Fingers crossed.

Good luck, has happened to me to.
I give up checking the level with the dipstick in my 300tdi 110 and just drain the sump and measure what goes in with a jug[6L from memory]

Well the sun is shinning on me today.
    Clean break to start with.

I just happened to have in my little inner city shed .....
A -10 earls fitting with some oil hose and transmission oil resistant loctite gasket maker. Plus a 1/2 inch NPT tap!!

Not back together just yet as im waiting for it to dry but i think i might have just pulled off a memorable save.
