what the hell are these things???

DW has cut out on me 3 times now!!!
have traced it to a break in the wiring at the pump.
there are 2 coil looking things on each wire, pos and neg.
to me they look like reistors of some sort, but they dont
    have ant restiance?????
can i remove them and fit new wires or will i blow up????

    someone please help!!

cant help you with that..however running the pump dry while testing may kill it.

so will running out of fuel......running pump dry.

its hard to make it out from that pic but it might be a couple of diodes in the insulation.
you sure its the wiring and not the pump?
i think the actual pump(motor) is the same as a holden commodore one but is about $100 cheaper

Look like shielded ceramic resistors like the ones on old cars for the coils.

A Rover 3500 has a resistor in the + line to cut the speed of the pump , and therefore the noise.

yes they do look like ceramic resistors, but as i said
there is no resistance through them??

Dzook its a VN comm pump in there.

had a thought?? there not some kind of fuse????
yes i know it sounds silly being in a fuel tank and all.

Wouldn't have thought so.... but what would that show if they were ? :?

you sure its not just a connector?

rip the insulation off and see.

Inductors to reduce spikes from the motor.

Inductors are just coils of wire, often around a core of iron or ferrite (in this case, probably ferrite). The core increases the inductance.

Usually they have quite low DC resistance but they have quite high impedance to spikes. (Capacitors have high impedance to DC but low to AC)

Yeah.... either way would you think they would cause the intermittent cutout of the pump ? :?

... I wouldn't have thought so. Most electrical problems that I've had on Landys are usually down to faulty earth connections. Don't assume that as it's connected to the chassis/body that you've got a proper earth. 8O
