Hi Mick, for the best results from this point on, with the battery charger sitting in float mode, turn your charger off for about 12 hours and then turn it on and leave it on for 12 hours.

By doing this, the battery will settle over the 12 hours the battery charger is off.

Then when you turn the charger on again, the charger should go to full charge for a while and then back into float mode.

This cycling charge/settle/charger causes the electrolyte to be stirred up every time you turn the charge back on and this will help recondition the battery.

Just leaving charge charger on, once it has been in float mode for 8 to 10 hours does not achieve much in the way of reconditioning the battery. It just keeps what every usable battery capacity you have gained, topped up.

In many cases, by cycling the charger routine, you can slowly improve the battery's capacity.

Also try your fridge on the battery for a few hours before one of your charger on cycles and see if the battery is holding the charge.

Usually when a battery charge starts in float mode, it doesn't sound like the battery is taking any charge, and still may be stuffed.

Hi DL and you can safely mix battery type to "trick" the charger into charging a flat battery. Just remove the good battery once the charger is working.

Thanks. Will try that when I get home on Sunday. Not actually optimistic as when it failed all the cells needed topping up so I think it was in bad shape but its still worth a try.
