Just copy the relevant PDF's (or in my case simply from the download) to a folder where you can access, or shortcut to them from the desktop etc.
With regards to the index - it's not of any real use to the older vehicles anyway. I guess if youre post 1995 then perhaps it may be of some use.... but If you simply open the PDF itself in preview and command-f to find what you're looking for it takes less than 5 seconds to bring up every reference in the document.
Especially handy when using the ETM, as you can type in a connector reference and it will bring up every location in the document where it is referenced. In an RRC ETM it was particularly useful for me.
Anyway, that's just my $0.05 you may prefer to run parallels, but I find that to simply chew battery when all I need is preview.app to do same.
