    Talking more info

Hey Deano, I am getting the hang of all this. 20 thou = 0.508 mm came off the head. I have a strange feeling I will have valve hitting problems as the old gasket had 3 holes too. I guess that probably means it has probably been previously shaved????????? When I looked along the face of the head the valves were about 2 mm past the surface of the head. Is this ok ?? hahahahahahahahaha only joking!! See ya - Gerry

    Here's one I prepared earlier.

2 in the diagram is a straight edge

Head gasket thickness is determined by the distance the piston protrudes from the block. For a three hole gasket this is 0.71 - 0.80mm. According to Paddocks this gasket is 1.50mm thick. The thickest with no holes is 1.60mm thick.

How's you head for maths ?

Hey Dean, I will take the head off again. (Torqued to 40nm) can I use the head gasket again or do I have to buy another??

Yes, you can re use the head gasket as it will not be crushed with a mere 40 Nm, although if the piston to head/valve clearance is too small it might not be relevant.

    Here's hoping all is good.

    Valve Head Stand Down measurements

Hi Deano, that saves me 3 days of wait and $40. Had no chance of working on the Beast today as family decided I need to do other things. I did get 2 steel rules from Bunnings Tool Dept for $4.90. A 300 and a 600 so tomorrow I will take the head of and do those valve head stand down measurements. I already have a decent set of Feeler gauges. I will let you know what I find. Fingers crossed. See ya mate - Gerry

Ps. I believe the other D1 has a 300tdi because what I read on the net the 200tdi has a v belt serpentine belt and not grooved like the 300tdi. I looked everywhere to identify the motor with no luck.

All good. v belts vs. serpentine is as good a way as any to tell the difference.

    Not good news

Hi Deano. Hmm, bad news I think. The valve head stand down figures don't make the grade. No exhaust made the minimum of .81 mm and no inlet made the .86 mm. Is their anything else I can get done to use this head or is it time to call it quits with this head?? Should I let the guy know who repaired it. Should he have known or is simply my prob?? This head has the same problem as the one on my shoulders, its F###ed hahahahahahaha
