    Unloaded spring length

Looking for some advice on springs. Will the length of sagging spring when not under load be the same or less than that of a new spring?

Usually less, unless the spring is actually not sagging but just loaded beyond its rating.

A month ago my 110 Puma had 855 mm on the LHS between floor and guard flare and 840 mm on the RHS. The car has had a steel bull bar since new, but no winch, and has now just clocked over 100K. Last week I bought standard 110 springs from a 2014 wreck (about 5K on them and by the looks, no dirt driving). Their unloaded lengths were both 370 mm. I swapped the springs the other day and the new distances between floor and guard flare are 858 and 857 mm for LHS and RHS respectively (28 PSI - 235/85 R16 GG AT2).

The springs I removed both had unloaded lengths of 370mm. So at first glance it would seem that even with different distance from floor to flare on the LHS and RHS the unloaded lengths were equal.

The before and after measures of guard flare heights were made a month apart and maybe I was parked at a slightly different place on my cement drive. It proabaly can't be explained by tyre pressure as I have TPMS and my front tyres are are always within 0.5 PSI of each other.

Has anyone alse seen springs with equal unloaded lengths give different loaded heights?

Eight hours later- after 50 km drive and with tires at 29 PSI - 870 and 855 mm for LHS and RHS respectively. So basically RHS still lower even after spring replacement.
