    97 tdi timing belt change

    Hi can someone tell me what tools i can get away using when doing this without buying all specialized tools im happy to make bits and pieces myself cheers adam in doreen melbourne

    if you handy can do most of it with a socket set, use a drill bit for locking the distribution pump, think from memory 6mm (i think but check). look up chris higgins on you tube he has a really good tutorial.

    Thank you so much ive been quoted over the phone $900 plus do change it and i thought how much is quality kit say 200$ maybe bit more tools say 50$ ish cang justify 650 700 in labour im pretty handy how long to do the job say a earlier start day job ?

    I book a full day to it but then I do other work on the way in and out.


    Spend a day reading the how tos and investigating everything before you start

    First time doing this you should allow a full day.
    Your biggest issues will be,
    Undoing and torqueing the crank bolt
    removing the viscous fan
    getting the tension correct for the new belt

    Yes i argree im confident with the rest of the job i think i need to buy crank locking tool puller and fan tool i have the rest any idea where i can buy them ill allow a weekend take my time and enjoy the challenge

    Adam, i have a puller you can borrow and i'm not far away from you.
    I also have a home made viscous fan spanner.
