    TD5 Fuel tank/ Pump

I think Superman fitted the fuel pump in my TD5..
Is this a seal already in the tank neck?. It's as solid as a rock & seems part of the tank.

If so, then the previous owner or his mechanic refitted a new pump without removing it, so there are two seals, it was a PIA to get the retaining ring off & I cant get it back on, I even made up a special tool & with all my considerable weight on it, no go..

If I remove the new seal the pump sits flush with the lip & the collar would probably re fit pretty easily.
I just don't want to smash up something that I can't replace. Here is a pic with it the way I think it should sit- flush with the lip & the lug a fair way in.

    Thanks, David

Yeah I had this issue - have you tried installing the seal on the lip of the tank first, then screwing down the pump bit? I did it that way, then when I put the screw cap back on, I put the right hand side on first and screwed it around (find where the thread starts and it will lock itself in place eventually).

Looks to be yes. Put it on your pump the right direction, then place pump part way in the tank, install seal, then install pump.
