Bought the car just ovet two weeks ago, so don't really have anything to compare it to. Only ever had 2.25d in the past.

Repaired the split hose by lagging it with electrical tape. Boost went from 3 psi to 13 psi. Power just about doubled. I know the tape won't last, it is already leaking, but I wanted to find out what the car is meant to be like.

replace it with silicone hoses but till then

self amalgamating tape wil hod it all together as will
    gaffa tape
    duct tape
muffler bandaging over motor bike tube
sealastic backed with cloth and twine
    aradlite and string
sliding a section of motorbike tube inside the hose, clamping the hose over the motorbike tube and then tie wiring the hose to stop it from spreading

There are, how many more would you like and how much time and effort are you prepared to invest? I meant there comes a time when you're sitting there waiting for climate change to swing the environment around so you can grow a rubber tree to harvest the sap so you can then laminate the pig hair cloth that youve woven out of one of the many beasties youve killed to keep yourself sustained into a section of hose while sitting in the chair you've made from their bones and tanned skins admiring the small vegetable patch and the citrus trees youve been cultivating to ward off scurvy by the dying light of the sunset that your going to ask yourself "was it really worth all this just to save the $200 in price hike to get a part delivered" and then, once you get that all done you're going to find that the battery has gone flat so the effort of the repair was pointless because you're now too old and frail to be able to push start the thing. ITs right about then that you'll feel stupid.

(and yes, using liquid rubber to laminate an external cloth patch onto the hose is just another one)

Hmmm, I think this forum night need an "Unthank" button...

By the way any thoughts on how much boost (and associated fuel) a 300Tdi can handle and still enjoy a long life?

I think I read in a Pommy LR magazine some years ago that 18 psig was about the most the standard head could usefully cope with, due to its flow capacity. Due to a painful and expensive set of circumstances, Daphne Discovery now sports a Turner Eng. UK 'performance head'. She has also had a Jamex upgraded intercooler for many years.

So, I'd welcome opinions one what level of boost/fuel might be possible without risking a big bang? Just curious really, as Daphne has 380,000 km and is running very well, so I wouldn't push her much harder anyway.
