    Clean-up after diesel leaks fixed

Daphne Discovery's long running injection pump diesel leaks finally seem to be fixed. Now I have to repair some rubber parts that have suffered from being sprayed with diesel for the last couple of years.

Both front anti-roll bar bushes are swollen and sad looking, as are the steering damper bushes on the driver's side. I have replacements ready for these.

But the one I'm not too sure about is the big steel 'doughnut' hanging off the front diff housing. This seems to be on a rubber mount. Is this a difficult thing to replace? And does anyone know why it's there and what it does? Some sort of resonance/vibration dampener? What happens if you remove it altogether?

    Thanks,

you'll only nitice its missing if your particular vehicle happens to need it. you'll notice it by a faint vibration developing in the front axle when you take it away.

if you dont need it dont bother refitting it.

you might need it the next time you put a new set of rubber on the front but then you'll just blame the tyres and will have forgottne about that dampner.

As the other posters said a Vibration dampner, never noticed any difference with it off, the rubber bit in the middle is a V8 LR engine mount, so if you wish to replace it you know what to buy, Regards Frank.
