If you take the thermostat housing off a wreck, cut the inlet/outlet pipes off to about 5cm in length. 
Then buy olive unions to barbed hose fittings that fit the aluminium inlet/outlet pipes.
Now you can run flexible hydraulic hose from the thermostat housing up to an inline cooler. I simply bolted an inline cooler directly to the front cross member.
I did have the hard lines from the wreck but trying to install them was going to be a bear. Flexible hydraulic hose made life easy.
With regards to fitting in situ,  I would think you should be able to attach the thermostat housing without too much drama with the gear bag insitu. The hard lines may be troublesome however.
