130 Crew Cab Chassis Cracking?
G'day All,
Been off for a bit so haven't been keeping up.
A friend of mine just got himself a 2000 model TD5 130 Crew Cab Defender. He's a great bloke, and I think this is something like his 11th land rover (parts of the other ones he still has, including some that are all in 1 piece!).
However I remember reading on here - and I think I saw someone post some pictures - of a chassis cracking problem with some of them.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find some information on the chassis cracking problem? If someone knows or has some pictures are it would be great too...
I've searched in the forums using 130 AND chassis AND crack but so far have not turned up anything..
Any and all help appreciated.
Cheers all :-)

Hmmm.... Not heard of that before however....
The 130 chassis does flex quite a bit which is why LR never used to fit it with a station wagon body. The gap between the body & the rear tray/box was there so it could flex. A few years ago, the chassis was stiffened slightly so they could produce the 150 SW vehicles for the African market.
Sorry... Not much use really.
Mark.

Thanks abaddonxi :-)
I had it in my head there was another thread (or maybe in someone's gallery) some pictures showing the cracking?
Ah well if someone knows of it then it'd be great, otherwise that thread that abaddonxi found is great (though it gets a little personal later on a bit  )
Cheers Guys.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>As to the chassis cracking, they all seem prone to it. Apart from the chassis bracket that holds the small transverse body cross member at the rear of the cab which tends to crack off down the chassis rail, both rear rails tend to let go right where the forward facing brace for the 'A' frame cross member finishes at the chassis rail. I've just noticed mine letting go there. (167,000km) Looks like a tray off and plate job.
I've been keeping an eye out for it as I've noticed a few others cracked there. They are noted for doing it in the Territory (which is where mine originates) [/b][/quote]
Apparently every one the Bush Fire Council used in the Territory cracked in those areas. Unfortunately they now use Patrols instead.
I still haven't fixed mine. At this stage, it is still only a hairline crack on both rails, and the body/chassis bracket (which has been re-welded several times).
