drop shorts wouldn't expect anthing else, good thing you didn't ask him to go the the store and ask for a solid punch

I would like to think that RAEME would not do something as silly however we have them as well.

MK5's, brings back memories of drive them to SWBTA in January 35 degrees outside 50+ degrees inside, was happy when I was posted away from them.

    Here we go old chap

drop shorts (although they rarely drop bombs short these days)- there real title is Gunner - works with artillery 'the big guns' and surface to air rockets and a whole lot of other stuff we never get to see in action

solid punch - not the type you hit with a hammer

RAEME - Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers or Royal Australian Easy Money Earners

MK5's - six wheel drive internation trucks, you may have seen some on frazer alyhough they might not be in use anymore

SWBTA - Shole Water Bay Training Area, just north of Rockhampton, one normally does not get excited about driving there esp in summer

    What about the spare?

I thought that because you (or those who have one) have a centre diff and constant 4WD you had to rotate the spare as well. This was because of the difference in the rotation speed if you had a new spare and a worn out tyre on the other side. Is this correct or not????

P.S. I asked Ford (now the local LR dealer) and his answer was........

    Wait for it

    Are they constant 4WD 8O 8O 8O 8O .
I see he is very knowlegable about Land Rovers

    my dear grunty.......

you are correct in your assumption......
different rolling diameters will roll at different speeds.....
but the diffs will allow for this as they are not locked....

(the only time you should lock any diffs is on slippery ground....
which is when you need to lock diffs due to lack of traction....
a locked diff will not allow any difference in speed between the two axles...
which is why you run into problems with different size tyres when they cant slip on the surface they are running on.....)

    My charming Zooky,
That is what I thought. Thanks for conferming it

What I was trying to say was that it is better to have all 5 tyres the same diametre for the exacty same reasons as you so elequently stated 8)

QUOTE

gruntfuttock What about the spare?

Now I shouldn't say this, I cannot remember the last flat tyre 'damit i will get one now' therefore I only purchased 4 x BFG AT's, I have 2 x Olimpic Steeltrex's as spares and due to the different tread pattern I'm only rotating the 4 BFG's. I figured the diff should be able to handle one tyre at full tread depth and the other will low tread depth.
