Why? More complexity, heavy tank has to go somewhere. 2 fuels required (pita) and for what? 30hp.....
For that price on a 300TDI go the turbo upgrade.
For a TD5 go the ECU upgrade.
My defender TD5 makes 94kw at the wheels. Thats a *lot* more than they offer and I get 11l/100km,
No weight penalty. No complexity added and single fuel.
Economy wont suffer and the diesel gas wasnt really giving an increase.
Of course the thing will go an extra 300km.... Its got 300km worth of extra fuel on board!
Cheers

They come up on ebay.co.uk fairly often, someone was bidding for one off the forum, I think it ended up going for between 100-150 pounds

80 pounds - that was td5 auto.

New ECU is $1100.00 better to do this than get one which is full of crud or stuffed. Testbook cannot reset an old ECU for a new vehicle.
As for Upgrades, Yes, your LR dealer can flash over your nice program so be sure to request they dont or your dollars are gone.
Otherwise. Pre 02 are hard programmed eg. chip resoldered in and cannot be flashed over. If you have one of these your laughing!

Hi all ,
DEFENDERZOOK , good idea on swapping ECU before sending to dealer .
Did some search on the net and found that some flashing / remapping / upgrading of the ECU work can have the original file chq sum still stay the same and therefore the T4 testbook cannot detect it .
While others , like Tombraider said , the dealer can flash over your remapped work or causes ECU faults to show in diagnostic page at service time ie, too much fuel .

I'm getting the same sort of economy from mine but if I had the money to spare would also have liked the fumigation option to increase range and reduce running costs. They estimated it would take me 100,000 kilometres to recoup the costs though.
