it will still burn as well that plastic interior could be toxic so stand well away
Hi,
Would there be any benefit in running 98 RON or 95 RON in my 95 Disco.
Thanks

this will start the debate!
IMHO there is NO gain in running PULP as the compression
ratio of the Vee8 is to low. 98octane(PULP) is made for high
performance cars with compression better than 10.1
save the extra $$$ you dont spend on the PULP and buy
something usefull.
cheers phil
Seeing as you drive a diesel, I don't think it will be that good. Originally posted by Rambo

Other than that, I don't know that it helps. Some people claim they get better fuel economy but they may also be people who'd buy a HiClone.

it from pinging......
the higher octane is better for high compression engines as it burns slower
and doesnt pre ignite as easily as a lower octane fuel......</span>
Partly true...the 98 RON has a better explosion or flash point so you had better stay well clear Originally posted by rangieman

But seriously, there is no advantage in changing fuels unless you have a vehicle that detects what type of fuel you are running. These vehicles change the settings via the computers and sensors to give you the maximium gain out of the engine or fuel.
The only way to you to gain anything is to run the fuel you want for a couple of tanks and the take it to be tuned to that fuel. You will then have to run this fuel all the time to achieve the best result. You can choose to go back to 'normal' fuel but your gains might become useless.
Cheers,
In the MINI and the Lotus these fuels are a must. However the lotus is erememly high compression, and the MINI is blown.![]()

From what I understand of the v8 in the disco it's pretty low compression so that it can run on whatever is available. Also, I know the early 90's rangies had electronic ignition, but the timing was set manually (aka no knock sensor). If this is the case maybe you could advance it a little.
Having said that, they also claim that they are higher density fuels blah blah blah. It might be worth running a few tanks and see if you're any better off. I know tht switching from BP ultimate (98ron) to standard premium (96ron) in the MINI increases the fuel consumption by 10%. I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes.
Another consideration is that the 98ron fuels are supposed to have LOTS or detergents in them which is good
Our v6 Camry we had before the fender didn't seem to give a damn about the quantity, as long as it could have lots of fuel. End result is try it for yourself
Interestinly, apparently shell is starting to sell 100RON fuel that has 5% ethanol in it. Some of the MINI crowd that have tried it reckon it's better but I'll wait to have a go at it myself before jumping ship.

Umm, should that read "quality"?Originally posted by Captain_Rightfoot
