hmmmm.....I think I am running this one in my 2.8???? I could only be sure by pulling it out.
remind me, is it hard to get it out and refit it? do i need a new gasket or sealant?
Serg, that's the type Tridon list as the t/stat for a 300Tdi.
I was worried that the stroke, as well as the diameter of the bypass valve wouldn't shut the by-pass port.
I'm pretty sure I measured the by-pass port in the head, etc at the time and decided I wouldn't risk it.
OE t/stat dimensions.
By-pass valve below main body at closed point is 39mm
by-pass valve OD is 33mm
Main body OD is 52mm
TT265-180/192/195
BPBMB = 35mm
BPV = 27.7mm OD
MB OD = 54mm
Basically the OE spec t/stat will shut the by-pass port before the TT265 for a given crack temp and there may be a possibility the valve mightn't shut the by-pass port properly due to the smaller OD.

yeah, the 2 oem ones are, the TT265-180 hasnt got one. But I suspect It could be borrowed from the OEM.
I have only done the T/stat once and forget. Is it just a matter of unbolting the housing and pulling it out? and just pop it back in? no gasket or sealant on housing?
cool, Ill try and dig mine out and see if I can id it....if indeed it is the TT265-180, then it SEEMS to be working ok???
I only use genuine ones, or at least OEM from UK manufacturers.

Once again, looks like Rick is the man and im just the special kid sitting in the corner.......hello
I popped open the T/stat housing and pulled my t/stat out. It appears it is NOT the TT265-180. I think it must be the TT388-180. I look up inside it and it has a 82c stamped in it. So not as low as the TT265-180 (71c), but still better than the 88c that the oem are.
Whilst I had it out I compared it physically with my OEM and the TT265-180. The TT265-180 is very close, but like Rick said, it probably wont do the job properly.
One thing I found was that my oring was all fubar'd (Rick, this may be part the reason for that Temp spike I suffered a couple months ago.) So I just pinched one of the OEM and put it back in.
So it looks like the TT388-180 is the Tridon T/stat for the 300tdi, it has a crack temp of 82c.
cheers,
Serg
In trying to sort my overheating woes, the mechanic has fitted a Stant t/stat to my 300tdi. Up till then these things had been done.
radiator rodded. (w/shop reported only20% blocked)
new pump
cylinder leakage test done and ok
pressure test cooling system and ok
new cap (tested and ok)
new t/stat (Stant)
Also, the head gasket was replaced about 18 mths ago.
I've since pulled the Stant out and fitted new another new oem cap and Waxstat t/stat.
Now with a fill from the heater hose and bled through the bleed plugs and tank cap, I can only drive about 15 mins before the needle starts rising. when I stop, there is water being pushed out the pressure cap and on letting out the pressure via the bleed plugs, I find air under both bleed plugs and the expansion tank chokka with water. At this point , it'll take about 2 litres to refill and I can go again.
So, here are the questions. Whats likely to have happened, and what effect would that Stant t/stat have on the engine, given that it's a lot shorter than the oem one, and the spring loaded washer at the end doesn't reach the back of the t/stat housing.
I'm feeling worried.
