Umm, stupid question, but have you changed the battery recently? I did that on the fob for wife's Subaru and found a real improvement in distance.

Mate I have the same issue in the P38 and from what I can gather from the RAVE cd is that the receiver sits under that passanger seat. I wouldn't replace the system with an aftermarket system for the reason that it is intergrated into other parts of the vehicle like interior lights and immobilier movement sensor and so on. The Range Rover security is rated as the best standard security system and offers greater security than most aftermarket options.

Check that you have a piece of wire (antenna), hanging out of the reciever box. Try extending it or straightening out if it is caught under something.

other trick is to put the tip of key fob on your chin, (not kidding!), and push the button. It extends the range. Mine works from around 6 metres plus.

Hey that must be a British-cars thing! We did the same to try and extend the range of our MG key-fob 8) Worked too!

As stated though the best thing to do is try to find the antennae and either straighten it out a bit, clear it from any obsticles, or extend it. As I said we had the same problem with the MG's, and that's what we use to do.

I have the same problem with my 96 Discovery. It's either put the fob against the window or stand next to the drivers door with the fob under my chin. Any ideas where the antennal/receiver is in a 96 Disco?

:roll: whilst on the subject,had the door trims off my 86 rangie yesty, and found electric server type thingys attached to the locking mechanisms on all doors,now i dont have a fob thingy and as far as i remember it doesnt lock all doors when locking any singular door,so what gives ?
is it just a standard thing that gets put in the vehicle and then the main component gets put in if ordered,(like the one loom fits all),or has someone "doctored"this one ,any help would be appreciated :? 8)

Yes, exactly. About that far.

It's a new fob with a new battery.

So - need to know the location of the antennae on late Classic Rangies and I'll investigate that aspect.

Course that doesn't fix the stupid "alarm going off" and/or "locking/unlocking doors occasionally for no reason" problems.
