Sounds cheap which specialist would that be
Had mine done a few months ago , replacement pump from a wreck was siezed and needed most parts replaced , the shop that did it are considered good but expensive .
Cost was under $2000 .
Had the mechanic boost the old pump ages ago when upgraded turbo was fitted & got the impression it was a fairly simple job , minimal extra cost .
This is all just about the injector pump isn't it? Is there another part to rebuilding a fuel pump that I'm missing here or is all this money just referring to that little injector pump only??
Haha yeah it's not a Ferrari...but maybe it could be an Alfa [bigrolf]
I just want to try and get a little extra out of it, or at least make sure that it's running as best it can...plus I'm not sure about the extra fuel that the last guys put into the injector pump, they just opened the main screw slightly (real tiny amount) but didn't touch the inside of the injector pump itself, so part of me just wants an expert to have a go at it.
Are there even any real experts left who want to do this? Or are the experts us now with all the documents and videos and stories of past experiences that we have at our disposal? I'm pretty sure the guys I asked just didn't want the job.
Thanks for this :) I do have a good working EGT gauge and I've read that before and watched a few videos, so I'm keen to give it a go, again though I just think it would probably end up better for the car if some kind of expert did it...that is if anyone really is an expert in doing this anymore.
Angus, read that pdf file I linked to in the earlier post.
They are a very simple, basic system. The guy that quoted you $2K to tune it was going to rip you off. There are only a few adjustments you can make.
The reason they are so popular, despite the lack of power, is because they are very simple.
If you read through that pdf, you will learn everything you need to know about the Bosch VE Injector Pump. Then maybe you can become an "expert" and rip people off, too! [bigwhistle]
Mario told you it won't ever be a Ferrari, I don't think it'll ever be an Alfa, either! Maybe a Fiat Bambina? [bigrolf]
When people mention the stately pace I proceed at in mine, I inform them that they may go faster, but I'll bet I will go further!
A mate in NSW got one from here,$900 plus postage. Sheaf Diesel Services - Diesel Injector Pumps Repair Specialists - Sheffield.
I have seen these exchange pumps advertised from UK , but there may also be a deposit for the exchange unit [ not worth sending yours to the UK ]
I added gas to my tdi300, great improvement.
Id have to agree with they either dont need the job or dont want it, most places dont want it.
The tweak on the pump doesnt take much to do, I do this on customers 300tdi when they come in for a service.
As plenty of others have noted a rebuild of the pump 1500 - 2000 is the norm, and places that are familiar with the 300tdi will "tweak" the pump once rebuilt.
But also as mentioned, the performance gains on a 300tdi are little bits that add up to "she runs pretty good"

Haha yeah it's not a Ferrari...but maybe it could be an Alfa [bigrolf] <==== I missed that comment..... err umm *cough* ... yeah not an Alfa either.... BUT YOU will burn off them oldies in their electric scooters that fly along the foot path or road depending on their mood.
