Also remembered you have a Defender. No personal experience with them and how much room behind the light assembly and the body, but as I remember they have even room behind the H4's plug tangs for stuff like heatsinks. So they may not even fit.
Don't think glare would be an issue tho(not sure, everyone is different). But I suffer from slightly sensitive eyesight too. Even on some cloudy days I still need to wear polarised sunnies, but on any normal day if I don't wear them, I'm almost in agony.
They obviously glare in some instances, like when high beams are on and there's a large white road sign 5m ahead of you!
But for normal driving I don't find them glary in any way... just bright.
Haven't yet driven in thick fog on a dark back road to see how well, or badly, they work in high/low beam to offer any comments.
But around town in fog(morning/night) they haven't given any issues.

No more Deefer, its gone to a new home, I'm D2 mounted now so have bugger all space behind the globes.
D2 has enough room for the Philips.
I did search and found some specs on the size of it all, and found enough room for their heatsink to fit .. so no problemo on that side.
I'm not entirely convinced on the stated Kelvin temp on some lights either tho.
At home, my choice of light globe(in the important rooms) is now the Philips 18w LED cool daylight version(you find them at the big red and green hardware store!)
They have choices of warm or cool daylight. I choose the cool daylight which is rated at 6500K.
It's obviously hard to do a direct comparison between a car headlight and a house light, eg. in my living room or study.
Glancing at a white A4 sheet, the room looks a lot more blue than the additional 500K would seem to suggest when compared to the headlights.

Yes, I've actually been thinking about that. It's possible to argue the lightbar is below the height of the bonnet and behind the front of the bullbar and so complies with the pedestrian safety rules. However Mr Plod probably wouldn't accept that argument, although nothing has been said at RBT stops.
I don't think the lightbar can be mounted in the same way underneath the top bar. Maybe it could go down the bottom if the spotlights were removed.
There is already a thread about this issue, so that's all I'll say here.
