I hate twin carbies
I have a new drama with the Rangie
.
Petrol spills out of the top vent pipe on the cd175 carbie when I am at idle 8O .
I have stopped it by blocking both vent tubes and she puts along fine now.
Anyone got a clue as to the cuase??????.

At a wild guess I would say that your needles and seats are so worn that the demand from the engine at idle is smaller than the rate of leaking.
This will happen to any carby if old enough.
Maybe your float has sunk. Must use a bit of fuel!!!!
An overhaul kit and maybe new float will fix.

Check the float levels also. Ensure both floats are at the correct height and the fuel is shutting off.

I put new needles , diaphams and gaskits in them not long ago.
And float levels have been checked when I had an electrical prob in Jan'
Thought it was carbies but turned out to be arking wires.
Don't get me wrong , I am very good with engines , rebuild them for kicks
however I have had little to do with Rover twin carbs.
I think It may be the choke system playing up as I now all other systems are ok. I just need someone to tell me if that is possible and if yes how would it happen?
cheers

Just thinking it through the only explanation I can think of is needles and seats. Either you have stuffed up, which would be hard or one of your floats has decided to die. Is it one carby or both???
The choke depends on a number of gaskets on the side of the carby which progressively open apertures for fuel to flow through into an additional jet/circuit as a disc is turned . I think the only way it could malfunction is if the gaskets broke up or suchlike. Or the choke is not going off when you push the control in.
You have not disconnected the return fuel line to the tank have you? ( or fitted a higher pressure fuel pump) as that regulates the fuel pressure in the carbs to I think 4PSI

No it only started about three weeks ago.
It's only one carb , the passengers side one.

At least you said Weber, not Holley :x :x Still can't beat EFI
Had a Holley once, hated it and a complete waste of space on a RR. I've never had any real issues with the strommies and I can't think of any other carb to fit to a Rangie IMO The auto choke ones ate crap though (My old man had an 81 Rangie with auto chokes and that was shocking).
Hope you sort your problem out. Good luck with it.

I would be supprised if it was not the needle and seat on the left carby. It is unlikly the float, check that the float hasnt got a hole in it and filled with petrol and sunk. Being a plastic float it is doutful, I have only seen brass floats with holes in them. As was mensioned before check the float level, to check this is simple, with the bowl off the carby, turn the carby up side down and see if the float sits reasanably parralel with the base of the carby. You say the needle has already been changed, asuming it is the needle and seat and not the fuel mixture needle that has been changed, as I said before dont be supprised if it is leaking, remove the needle and inspect for any foreign body, the smallest thing can cause it to leak.
You said that you bloked off the vent tubes, normaly if you block the vent tubes, after running the car for a little while the carbys will create a vaccum in the fuel bowl and stop the delivery of fuel, witch will stop the engine. I hope I have been a help
